Subject: Transitional Update & and Closure

Date: Sunday, November 9, 2009

Intended Recipients:

During the past 19 months, I've worked hard to create and institutionalize an organization that fights for the advancement of conservative principles in government and on college campuses. Our fight has been opposed by those who seek to protect the diminishing influence of liberal/quasi-socialist principles of control, limited personal freedom, and propagandic indoctrination. This has been no easy fight and I have lost many hours of sleep working to expand our operation and thereby our influence. In such a short period of time, we have had the opportunity to accomplish things that many other commonwealthwide organizations have never been able to accomplish. We've hosted various members of congress (honorable), conservative leaders, etc. at chapters across the Commonwealth of Virginia. We've taken multiple trips, hosted multiple demonstrations, protested multiple events. Our events have had some of the largest audiences to attend conservative/libertarian/republican events. I have had the opportunity to meet many great friends due to my involvement in this organization.

It comes with much sadness to inform you all that we will not transition into our own autonomous organization, as was originally planned. As many of you all know, this transition was to begin taking place directly after the elections here in Virginia due to a dissension with the national organization over inactivity and general, ruthless ineffectiveness. The decision to transition came to past upon the ending of our negotiations with the National Organization. I believe that our announcement of this transition to the conservative community was pressure enough for the national organization, whereby they've now hired a person to start organizing nationally. I've decided that our efforts to organize an independent conservative organization here in Virginia will now be futile due to the fact that YAF will be reorganized in Virginia by the national organization.

It has been a quite difficult endeavor for us to distinguish ourselves as the conservative organization in Virginia; to distinguish our organization from organizations like the college republicans, et al. Just as we have made headway, and were intending to advance with an autonomous organization, YAF (national) will once again challenge us and cause much confusion as to the nature of our two organizations. The Young Americans for Freedom has been dormant for years, with a National Chairman and a Board of Directors - that is it. They've missed elections, state organizations have perished, and they now mainly exist on paper (as well as with a bank account, of course). I see the new efforts of the Young Americans for Freedom as being futile, as they've made "attempts" like this before and were ineffective and unsuccessful at each step.

Despite the fact that we will soon no longer exist, I do not want that fact to discourage you. Remember the things and ideas for which we fought - individual freedom, limited government, national security, etc. Never forget the blessings which we often take for granted. Socialism, Authoritarianism, and other forms of Non-democratic rule leave millions of people around the world oppressed, unable to provide for their families, with the ability to prosper merely an abstract, unachievable goal (much like a child's wishes to one day become president of the United States). I firmly believe that when people are given the choice between chains and freedom, people overwhelmingly choose freedom. Keep this in mind when you fight and are opposed by liberals in all their fervor. Don't be afraid to start your own organizations; there are many organizations that will proudly help fund your operations.

Keep your head high, never give up the fight, and realize that I'm still here to help those interested in continuing to fight for the cause of freedom.

In freedom, always,

William A. Zimmerman

A Warm Congratulations

Michael DeMatteo, Director of Communications and Information Technology, was named Chapter Chairman for the George Mason chapter of the Young Americans for Freedom - Virginia last academic semester. In the process of our Commonwealth-wide organizational transition, Mr. DeMatteo has not assumed his position, until today. Mr. DeMatteo is a passionate, hard working conservative. We've been proud to have him on our team, and we are now proud to have him in this additional capacity.

Not Evil Just Wrong - Select Premiere

Join Conservatives from George Mason and the Fairfax (NoVA) area for activist fun; fighting for freedom and having fun!

We have a license to host a premier showing of the documentary, Not Evil Just Wrong. As explained on the film's website, this documentary is about how "[g]lobal warming alarmists want Americans to believe that humans are killing the planet." The website goes on to say that "Not Evil Just Wrong, a new documentary by Phelim McAleer and Ann McElhinney, proves that the only threats to America (and the rest of the world) are the flawed science and sky-is-falling rhetoric of Al Gore and his allies in environmental extremism."

The Showing will take place at the George Mason University chapter of the Young Americans for Freedom, located in Fairfax County. We will be showing the documentary at 8:15pm in the Johnson Center on the 3rd floor in room G on Sunday, October 18, 2009. Doors will open at 8:00pm, and the event is free and open to the public.

Light refreshments will be served.

Check out what people are saying about the film:

"...the real world consequences of acting on global warming fears" - The Wall Street Journal

"a devastating account of Mr. Gore's brand of self-interested and hypocritical alarmism" - National Post (Canada)

If you are at another chapter, or at a college without a chapter, and would still like to host a premiere, please let us know ASAP (as the premier is on the 18th) - we can provide a party pack (including the DVD) for free through the Leadership Institute.

If there are any questions/concerns, please either contact me directly or email to inquires@yafva.org.

Protest Continued Funding of ACORN’s Corruption

A Memo from William A. Zimmerman

The Desk of Chairman & President

Hello Everyone,

I hope that you are all doing well! As many of you all know, there have been some very exciting developments within YAF all over Virginia. In the coming weeks, you will be hearing more about these developments, their benefits, and how YOU can get involved. It is because of you that we are the conservative powerhouse for Virginia’s young conservatives!

Today, I would like to bring to your attention an exciting activism project that we are helping to coordinate in Virginia with the Leadership Institute. This is a project in which we will effectively protest publically in front the banks that are supporting ACORN and that have also benefited from TARP (Bailout) funds.

*Protest Continued Funding of ACORN’s Corruption*

This weekend, we are trying to get a group of at least 30 people together to protest one or more of the following banks:

1. JP Morgan Chase:

a. Gave ACORN $5 million since 1998 ($2.4 million in 2007)

b. Took $25 billion in TARP funds

2. Citigroup:

a. Gave ACORN $1.5 million in 2006

b. Took $25 billion

3. Wachovia, which was bought out by Wells Fargo in 2008:

a. Gave ACORN $5,000 since 2000

b. Wells Fargo took $25 billion in TARP funds

4. US Bancorp:

a. Gave ACORN $755,000 since 2002

b. Took $6.599 billion in TARP funds

5. PNC:

a. Gave ACORN $95,000 since 2002

b. Took $7.6 billion in TARP funds

6. Provident Bank:

a. Gave ACORN $5,000 since 2002

b. Took $151 million in TARP funds

In Northern Virginia, we will be going out on Sunday, and expect a media presence. We need everyone to submit suggestions of which bank(s) we shall visit. Afterward, we will all have dinner to celebrate our accomplishments. The night before, we should all get together for a sign blitz, where we will create the poster boards used in our demonstration.

THIS WILL BE FUN!

PLEASE FORWARD THIS EMAIL – WE NEED YOUR INPUT AND SUPPORT!

More details will be available tomorrow….

If you live in another part of Virginia, please consider putting on one of these demonstrations either this weekend or a weekend in the near future. Our public relations folks will make sure that information about your even is being disseminated in the most effective way possible.

Depending on the type of media turnout at your respective events, in partnership with the Leadership Institute, there are various awards and grants that could be earned by your group; please contact us for more details.

Please feel free to contact us with any questions/concerns that you may have. We will be sending out other updates soon, as well as the exciting news of the developments of our current situation.

Thank you for your continued support!

In freedom,

William

Chairman Announces Organization Transition

FAIRFAX, Va. - During the process of organizational meetings, an overwhelming majority of leaders within the Young Americans for Freedom - Virginia have reached a consensus that our relationship with the Young Americans for Freedom (National) should come to a close. William Zimmerman, Chairman and President, announced recently that "the inability of the National Organization to effectively run the organization, coupled with their continued hindrance of our necessary operations, leaves us no choice but to go our own separate ways." Recent negotiations with the National Organization to reform operational structure have failed. In addition to the various leaders of the Young Americans for Freedom - Virginia, affiliates, alumni, and other observers have come to the conclusion that the national organization is ruthlessly ineffective. "They [National YAF] have missed multiple elections, have made no substantial effort to start new chapters nationally, and lack the ability to perform the essential functions for which they were elected - that is absurd," said Zimmerman.

Speculations of those who wish to be left anonymous suggest other internal problems, including varying levels of corruption, although this has not been confirmed. A high-level official within the Young Americans for Freedom (National) has been pushing for action from the national board of directors to expand and increase operations, especially in this environment when aid to the conservative movement is essential. Chairman Zimmerman also expressed this need for aid to the movement. "I find it hard to believe that an organization which has had such a profound impact on the American Conservative movement can refuse to beef up operations," said Zimmerman when asked about his feelings of the inaction from the Young Americans for Freedom (National). "The National Organization has brought much same to the conservative movement, and they should be ashamed of themselves for allowing a preeminent organization to fail."

Sources say that the Young Americans for Freedom - Virginia is the last permanent state organization in the country, as other well known chapters and state organizations have also failed.

"We will do all that we can to create smooth transition into an independent organization here in Virginia," said William Zimmerman. There will be a transition period between now and December were organization officials will plan, re-configure, and expand.
